Day 2 - San Diego to Alpine; Palms to Pines
The ride started with the the traditional wheel dip in the Pacific and lots of photos. [Pictures to come.]
The fun part for Rick and I was that the wheel dip took place on Dog Beach. There were dogs everywhere. How fun! The ride started on a bike path that was flat with palm trees. Then it was a steady uphill with grades of up to 8%. It was interminable. Temps also reached 80 degrees. We are just not used to these temperatures, nor the hills. We made it to Alpine and its pine trees. I’ll admit it wasn’t easy, but I made it.
I found out that while I was riding towards the end of the middle of group. That made me feel good considering the heat and climb. Tomorrow will be the biggest climbing day of the tour - over 4,000 feet. Of course I’m somewhat nervous. Hills have always been a challenge.
Go Lynn! Stay safe. You guys rock!
