Shakedown Rides

We have arrived in San Diego without a problem. We each had two duffle bags and a bike case. Between luggage carts and sky caps we were smoothly able to navigate our way to the hotel. Rick assembled the bicycles and we are ready to ride.

We are staying in the Ocean Beach community of San Diego. They love their dogs here. The ride even starts on Dog Beach. Here is a sign at a restaurant that allows dogs inside.

The Ocean Beach community is a throwback to the 70s. Here is a car at a restaurant near the beach and a sign on the patio at our hotel room.

Shakedown rides are so important. I knew that, but today reinforced it. I got the bike from the shop then day before it had to be packed for traveling. Fortunately the bike performed perfectly! Way to go Aberdeen.

Today’s ride itself was easy. We essentially rode the first ten miles of Day 1 of the C2C ride and returned the same way. Last summer I managed to wash my Garmin bike computer and it has never been the same since. Thus, I bought a new one for this ride. Because I bought it in December and haven’t ridden outside since then, I had issues to work out. I have them resolved. Discovering and resolving issues is idea of a shakedown ride. However because of those issues, I don’t have data to report. Let’s hope all works well on the next shakedown ride tomorrow.
